Construction Begins December 1st
October 24th was a huge day for us. It marked a milestone in what has been a two year quest to start our brewery. We knew it would be a marathon, not a sprint, but it has been more like a hardcore endurance race. After a full year of walking industrial spaces and countless phone calls with Charlotte Mecklenburg zoning and planning, we finally found our building and have signed the damn lease! (Many thanks to our broker, Scott Wilson at Childress Klein.)
Our 8400 sq. ft. building is located on Hawkins Street in the heart of South End, and it is destined to change… a lot! It was built in 1959 as a Ryder Truck service station, and for the past three decades has been used as an auto garage. In many ways it is an ideal building — high ceilings, good floors, garage doors that will become openings for natural light — but there is work to be done.
We will begin by tearing down walls and stripping the building back to its barebones structure. Then the fun really begins! We will replace auto bays and hydraulic lifts with our taproom, brewing equipment and everything in between. Sidewalks, trees and new lighting will go in front of our building, along Hawkins Street, and behind our property along the Light Rail Trail. Expect lots of bike racks, an outdoor patio, and some other pretty awesome surprises.
We will continue to update our blog with the latest news and updates, but if you prefer to have announcements sent directly to your inbox, please sign up at the bottom of our page.
Here we go!
